Mastering correct operating techniques can significantly improve the machining accuracy and safety of CNC gear hobbing machines, ensuring long-term stable operation of the equipment. The following are key operating techniques summarized based on standardized procedures and practical experience:

 

Pre-Start Preparation Techniques

Lubrication First, Manual Pre-Run: If the equipment has not been used for a long time, it is recommended to manually pre-lubricate all lubrication points before starting the centralized lubrication system and circulating it for 5 minutes to ensure sufficient lubrication of the guide rails and lead screws.

Double Inspection of Cutting Tools and Fixtures: When installing the hob, use a torque wrench to tighten it to the standard torque to avoid loosening; after clamping the workpiece, it must be aligned with a dial indicator. The coaxiality error should be controlled within ≤0.01mm to prevent eccentric cutting.

 

Program and Parameter Setting Techniques

Utilize the "Table-Based Programming" Function: High-end CNC systems (such as FANUC or GSK) support parametric input. The operator only needs to fill in basic parameters such as module, number of teeth, and helix angle, and the system automatically generates the machining program, significantly reducing the programming threshold.

Simulation Run Cannot Be Skipped: After importing the program, be sure to enter "Simulation" mode to observe whether the toolpath interferes with the fixture and workpiece. Only proceed with actual machining after confirming there are no errors.

 

Machining Process Control Techniques

Segmented Trial Cutting, Gradual Feed: For the first piece, it is recommended to use the "roughing → measurement → finish cutting" mode. First, use a small depth of cut to test-cut a section of the tooth profile, stop the machine to measure the tooth thickness and pitch, and complete the full tooth machining only after confirming that it meets the requirements.

Monitoring Cutting Status: "Listen, Look, and Measure"

Listen to the sound: Normal cutting should produce a uniform "shh" sound. If a "ticking" or sharp noise occurs, it may indicate tool wear or improper parameters.

Look at the chips: Ideal chips are short and curled. If long strips appear, it indicates that the feed is too small or the tool is dull.

Measure the temperature: During dry cutting, the hob temperature should not exceed 60℃. An infrared thermometer can be used to assist in the judgment.
