Turn Mill Center

Product Overview

The Turn Mill Center integrates high-rigidity turning and high-speed multi-axis milling within a single platform. By consolidating operations that traditionally require separate lathes and vertical/horizontal machining centers, this machine eliminates workpiece re-clamping errors, reduces floor space, and cuts non-cutting cycle times by up to 55 percent.
Built on a Meehanite cast iron bed with finite element analysis (FEA) optimized ribbing, the machine absorbs high cutting forces while maintaining thermal stability during continuous 24/7 production runs.

Key Features

45-Degree Slanted Monoblock Bed:

Cast in-house using high-grade Meehanite iron, stress-relieved via thermal annealing and vibration aging. The 45-degree layout ensures unimpeded chip evacuation directly into the internal chip conveyor while providing maximum rigidity under heavy radial loads.

Synchronized Sub-Spindle (B-Axis):

Features a built-in liquid-cooled motor spindle capable of full synchronization with the main spindle. Enables zero-point part transfer for complete 6-side machining in a single program cycle.

B-Axis Milling Head:

Driven by a high-torque roller gear cam mechanism, providing continuous indexing from -120 degrees to +120 degrees with hydraulic clamping torque of 3,500 Nm for rigid off-center drilling, contouring, and angled boring.

Direct-Drive C-Axis:

Eliminates gear backlash via a high-resolution ring encoder mounted directly on the spindle nose, achieving contouring precision required for cam profiles and helical interpolation.

Thermal Drift Compensation:

Integrated PT100 temperature sensors monitor thermal growth on the main spindle bearings and ballscrews, feeding real-time compensation data directly into the CNC controller (Fanuc 31i-B or Siemens 840D sl).

Quality Control & Inspection

Every turn mill center undergoes a strict verification protocol before factory dispatch, complying with ISO 230 standards:

Laser Interferometer Calibration: Linear positioning and repeatability accuracy tested and mapped across all axes using Renishaw laser measurement systems.

Ballbar Circularity Test: Dynamic interpolation accuracy verified under high feed rates to detect and eliminate servo lag or mechanical backlash.

Spindle Dynamic Balancing: Main and sub-spindles dynamically balanced to G1.0 grade at maximum RPM to minimize vibration and maximize tool life.

72-Hour Thermal Run Test: Continuous dry-run operation monitoring bearing temperature stabilization, hydraulic pressure stability, and electrical load variance.

Test Cut Report: A standard NAS 979 or customer-provided test part is machined on-site to verify geometric tolerances, roundness, and surface finish before sign-off.

Custom Manufacturing Process

Application Review & Part Analysis: Our engineering team reviews customer-submitted STEP/IGES files, production volume requirements, and tolerance callouts to select the optimal machine model, turret configuration, and tooling package.

FAQ

Q: What CAM software packages are fully compatible with your Turn Mill Center control systems?

A: Our machines run on standard Fanuc 31i-B or Siemens 840D sl controls. We supply validated post-processors for Mastercam, Siemens NX, ESPRIT, and TopSolid. For complex 5-axis simultaneous contouring or multi-channel synchronization, our application team provides custom post-processor templates and simulation models.

Q: Can the machine handle bar stock feeding alongside secondary operations via sub-spindle?

A: Yes. The configuration includes a hydraulic bar feeder interface (compatible with standard hydrodynamic bar feeders up to 1,500 mm or 3,000 mm lengths). The main spindle processes the bar, the sub-spindle catches the cut-off part, transfers it, and the back-working tools machine the rear face in a continuous cycle without manual intervention.

Q: What is the lead time for standard models versus custom turnkey configurations?

A: Standard stock models equipped with standard 12-station turrets and hydraulic chucks typically ship within 6 to 8 weeks. Custom turnkey systems—requiring specialized sub-spindles, customized tool magazines, specialized boring bars, or automated robot loading cells—generally require 12 to 16 weeks, depending on fixture validation phases.

Q: What warranty coverage and service response times are included with the equipment?

A: The machine comes with a standard 12-month warranty covering all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components from the date of final acceptance (FAT/SAT). For technical inquiries, our engineering support desk guarantees an initial response within 4 hours, with on-site technician dispatch scheduled within 24 to 48 hours for critical downtime issues.
